"Pre-SISTERLOCKS"

I am re-posting my pre-Sisterlock photo's because I had to delete the other post.....so here it goes.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sisterlocked 2 weeks. Hair chopped, started Sisterlocks with 1 1/2 inches of natural hair and a 1/2 inch of permed hair. My loctician requested that I keep a little bit of perm on the ends because it helps prevent slippage and bunching and it is easier to style early on and boy was she right. I was in shock for a while because I was not used to having short hair but it grew on me quickly because I began to get a lot of compliments, especially from my DH. It took my hair about 18 months to fully lock because of the texture of my hair, it did not cause any problems but it was frustrating to not be fully locked after 1 year; because I thought that would be the longest I would have to wait to be fully locked. I actually cut the 1/2 inch of permed ends at 1 year.
See, it was my mother's fault, she got me hooked on braids as early as 9 years old (LOL).
Braids (1998).....
1999 (Braids) I told you I loved me some braids!
1999 (my hair permed and wrapped), I loved the wrap as well. In this photo I did not even know about Sisterlocks.
2000 (roller-set), yes I loved roller-sets then and I love them now :) This was a couple of months before I got married, I wore my hair in a similar curly style with "my tiara/veil" on top. BTW- I was still getting my hair permed at this time. I stopped getting perms in late 2002 and then I got my locks on July 15, 2003, that is why I did the BIG chop because I did not really want to deal with the permed and locked hair at the same time.
May 2000 (braids)...boy did I love me some braids, that is one of the reasons my hair line weakened because of the braids, I am trying to strengthen it now with Organic Root Stimulator (Carrot)--a suggestion from my blogging buddy LaShaune. It seems to be working well, "when I remember to put it on my hair line and massage."
2002 (roller-set), by this time I had already decided to stop getting perms, so this is a flat iron and curls done with a curling iron. This is probably about 6 months before I did the big chop for my Sisterlocks. Sisterlock Installation- July 15, 2003.

Wow! Since I have never seen you without Sisterlocks, all of these photos look wrong somehow. It's great that your DH liked them from the beginning -- it would be tough otherwise. Thanks for sharing!

I am so pleased you did this again! It's great to see how far your SL's have come; I didn't realise you started with them so short. Amazing growth and in less than four years...

Thanks Ladies (Brunsli, Mel, Aya, and Shanessence), I am glad you enjoyed this post. When I look at my hair when I first started with Sisterlocks it still amazes me how fast my hair has been growing. The potential of our natural hair is PHENOMINIAL!!!!

Chosen,

Hello Phenomenal woman of Sisterlocks™. I just wanted to comment and say that of all the hairsytles I rocked in the past, my number one favorite were my Braids and the second run up (believe it or not) the Curl. I wore the curl until I was 18 years old. Everyone, I mean everyone kept harrassing me to get rid of it. But did it appeared to grow my hair (to a certain degree) and I could be a nerd/jock like crazy and my curl loved it. There was pain to wearing this hairstyle, but I don't want to think about that.

I am on my way to Sisterlocks™. I have strong feelings this will cause a dramatic shift in my ranking of favorite hairstyles.

Cheleskilove,

Thank you for the compliments. It is amazing the potential of our natural hair....I continue to be amazed everyday I run my fingers through my hair and look at myself in the mirror. God made us beautiful in every way :) I never truly believed that until I got Sisterlocks......for a long time I struggled with not having long, straight hair, and I am humbled by the beauty that God has shown me through my African hair. Thank you Lord for showing me the beauty of all of me through Your eyes.

Muslimahlocs,

Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving such nice comments :)

No, I am not from Ghana, but my mom wanted to give me an African name, I do however plan on visiting Ghana some day.

Your sisterlocks look so great.. Do you think you will ever change back to any of the Pre-Sisterlock styles..

Thanks Cee! Regarding changing back to the pre-sisterlock styles, the only way I will do that is if I had major problems with my locks, otherwise I plan on keeping my sisterlocks for a long time :)
